US Social Media Influencer Fined After Mass Electric Bike Ride on Iconic Australian Bridge
NSW police have levied a penalty against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged negligent driving following a swarm of electric bicycle users converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic on Tuesday.
The Event: A Prohibited Ride
A gathering of approximately 40 people operating electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the bridge’s main deck, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and traveled through the downtown area and a nearby district.
"There was a risk of serious injury or fatalities," stated a senior police official the officer on Wednesday.
Law enforcement indicated they did not chase right away the riders out of concerns for public safety but rather found the group at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, at which point they broke up.
Penalties Issued for Content Creator
On Saturday, authorities announced they had issued the American online personality who goes by the influencer, twenty-six, with two traffic infringement notices for negligent driving (with no death or previous bodily harm), with a penalty of $562 and penalty points per notice, in relation to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that inquiries were continuing.
The influencer reportedly has over 3.4m followers on YouTube and over 1.2m on the social media app.
Creator's Response
The online figure gave comments to a local publication this week following the event spread rapidly on digital platforms, stating he was sorry for giving "bike life" a bad reputation.
"I accept the blame. It was one of the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, and I intend to come here respecting the rules and standards of the city. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi near the bridge."
"I did not know the area well, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had two choices: whether the group rides the full length of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we turn around, basically, before we’re on the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to go back."
National Debate on Electric Bike Rules
The increase of electric bicycles on streets across the country has prompted increasing demands for regulation. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "complete hazard on the road."
"Young people have engaged in reckless acts on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the harm that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are absolutely devastating," the minister stated. "We must ensure we stop these things coming into the country [and] officers are granted the authority to crack down, to take them away, to crush them, to dispose of them."
The state recorded over two hundred injuries associated with ebikes in 2024. However, in the first seven months of 2025, that number surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
