Person That Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Premiere Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted across a fence and touched celebrity Ariana Grande has been sent away and banned from Singapore.
The man, 26, was sentenced to more than a week in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities told Singaporean press.
The man shoved beyond security and rushed toward the celebrity, who was attending the Asian premier for the film on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
Wen has a history of disrupting concerts and celebrity events, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The occurrence provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with many saying he of re-traumatising Grande.
The pop star has spoken of suffering from PTSD after a terrorist bombing at her performance in Manchester in May 2017 took the lives of 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the red carpet event multiple times, according to local news sources.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Protection personnel intercepted him and pinned him down.
The man subsequently shared videos thanking Grande for allowing his presence and said he was "released."
Law enforcement detained him the subsequent day and charged him with public nuisance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Court Judge Christopher Goh was cited by a news outlet as stating that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was mistaken to believe he would not experience repercussions.
Grande has not addressed the case.
The co-star discussed the situation to NBC, saying that she "only aimed to make sure my colleague was secure."
"I'm sure he didn't intend us harm, but you never know with those things, and I aimed to make sure that she was alright. That was my initial reaction," she said.
