Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
