Emma Raducanu concludes this year's campaign and plans to retain her coach into the 2026 season.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three out of four major tournaments during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions this season due to a health issue she has been battling in recent days.
The 22-year-old was due to play in events in Asia but has decided to fly home to recover before starting her preparations for 2026.
These plans are set to feature her coach Francisco Roig, as the pair have agreed to work together in 2026.
She had her blood pressure taken while playing the initial match with Ann Li in Wuhan last week and stopped playing when trailing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
She needed once more a doctor's assessment at the Ningbo Open this week, where she fell in a three-set match to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.
Her movement was with clear difficulty in the deciding set in the match with Zhu due to a lower back issue that has affected her during parts of the season.
Such performances signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 after more than three years for the first time since 2022, concluded with three straight losses.
She held three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in Beijing last month.
The player achieved 28 matches this year and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami Open in March.
The British number one made the last eight of the WTA 1000 event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way prior to a loss in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was for the remainder of the year but they will keep working together, with a training block pencilled in late this year.
Raducanu told that a three-day test period with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she made the third stage before being beaten by Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
